GENERAL ENGLISH CAMP QUESTIONS
Camp check-in is from 15:00-17:00 on the scheduled day of arrival. Due to rental circumstances, early arrival is not allowed.
We will suggest a train time when other campers will be traveling from across Austria to attend English Camp and recommend your camper take that train. If driving, directions depend on the camp location.
– Schwaigmühle: Latschenstraße 12, 5084 Großgmain
– Westendorf: Vorderwindau 20, 6363 Westendorf
Campers are placed in shared rooms known as Cabins consisting of 3-6 other youth who are around the same age or from the same location in Austria as your camper. Each Cabin is led by a trained camp staff member.
Please list any requests on the information form (the form you later receive after filling out the registration form) and we will try our best to place requested campers together. Cabin assignments are made before camp and we cannot guarantee placement of any campers together.
Due to the active and sometimes outside nature of camp, we encourage that your camper pack typical camp clothes that they can afford to get dirty and be active in. Our packing list can be found here: Packing list
Yes, campers should bring extra cash if desired. Each day campers have the opportunity to buy snacks or English Camp merch at our Kiosk.

SAFETY AT ENGLISH CAMP
Your campers’ health and safety is one of our camp staff’s top priority. Because of this, we require each camper to submit any medical needs via our information form (the form you later receive after you fill out the registration form) before the start of camp. If your camper requires regular medication and you would like our camp program staff to safely help administer the medication, please make a note on the information form. Should your camper require medical care, every attempt will be made to contact you first.
English camp caters to the following dietary restrictions: Vegetarian, Lactose Intolerance, and Gluten Intolerance. Because of the added adaptations that need to be made to facilitate the above dietary restrictions, we charge an extra €30 per camper. To help facilitate your campers experience, we request that you list in detail any dietary restrictions during registration on the information form (the form you later receive after you fill out the registration form).
All of our staff are required to attend a 5-day training with us that includes a child protection and awareness training beforehand. It is part of our hiring process which also includes interviews, background checks, and references. Our program leads are also required to have first-aid training.
Before camp you will receive a cell number of the English Camp staff member in charge of the location your camper is at. Please refer to this email for details on how to contact your camper.
THE "ENGLISH" PART OF ENGLISH CAMP
We welcome campers at all English fluency levels at camp. One focus of English Camp is to give your camper a setting where they can deepen their level of English at their pace through engaging lessons, interacting with native English speakers, and being in an English-speaking environment for a week.
At English Camp we focus on speaking and interacting in English for the entire week. This includes all activities, chapel times, cabin groups, and more. Each day includes a two-hour English lesson that will be built upon throughout the day as your camper engages with others in English. Your camper has the opportunity to speak English all day long with our many native speakers.
We have both native English and German speakers at all our camp locations. To facilitate an authentic English Camp experience, over half of our staff are native English speakers mainly from the United States. However, our main program staff are always fluent German speakers who are living long-term in Austria.
We think so! 9 out of 10 campers self-report that their English either improved or vastly improved due to attending one week of English Camp.
ENGLISH CAMP RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION
Our English Camp is a Christian camp. We will openly share Biblical truths every day at camp through fun and interactive teaching, music, prayer, and cabin groups. However, your camper does not need to be a Christian or believe in the Bible to attend camp. We do not pressure campers in any spiritual matter and respect each individual camper’s right to make their own decisions regarding beliefs and values.
AFTER ENGLISH CAMP
We keep every lost and found item at English Camp for a month after camp ends. Your camper has the opportunity to recover the item at our English Camp Reunion held in late August or September after camp. If necessary we can mail the item if shipping costs are covered by the camper.
As long as your camper has filled out the required picture consent form, your camper will receive pictures from their camp location the week following camp. As described in the consent form, pictures may be posted on official English Camp media sites including our website and Instagram. Follow our Instagram at @EnglishCampAustria
English Camp hosts a yearly English Camp Reunion in late August or early September in Innsbruck, Austria. Details are posted on our English Camp Instagram as well as through WhatsApp. We also highly encourage youth to attend one of the bi-weekly youth programs through the BEG where they can interact and connect year-round with other campers who attended English Camp. If you would like to find out more, please reach us by email and we can give you more details.
We would love your support of English Camp and you can help us out in three ways:
